INFORMATION
OBJECTIVES
The conference gathers civics, scholars, practitioners, political leaders, and businesswomen and men to share their experience and to explore and critically examine the above issues and connections concerning democracy and respect for human rights and their links to peace, security, and development.

The purpose of the conference is to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in Somalia with new ideas and tools to enable them to act progressively and effectively in favor of peace building, democracy, good governance, rule of law and development and thereby effect long-term institutional change in Somalia that can respond to the needs of the Somali society. The purpose also includes building capacities of stakeholders, including civil society and political leaders to anticipate and respond to potentially violent conflicts.

The objective of the conference is to:
• Identify and develop policy options to initiate and strengthen democratic governance, peace and security in Somalia, avoiding sectarian politics.
• Encourage and facilitate dialogue between stakeholders to stimulate communitydriven
solutions to sectarian politics.
• Enable networking among stakeholders in the civil society and political leaders on
developing democratic governance in Somalia.

The conference will take place in the internationally known cultural University City of Lund, Sweden. All papers presented and workshop debates will be in English and proceedings of the conference will be published as a book after the conference.
All interested university researchers, university students, journalists, politicians, nongovernmental organizations and institutions are welcome to participate in the conference, but the organizers of the conference do not take responsibility for those who need travel tickets, accommodation and visas to Sweden. Deadline for participants’ registration is 20 May 2010.
